Rice husk ash as supplementary cementing material to inhibit the alkali-silica reaction in mortars

چکیده

abstract: Alkali-silica reaction (ASR) is one of the most harmful distress mechanisms that affects durability concrete worldwide. Yet, it has been found ASR-induced expansion and may be prevented by appropriate use supplementary cementing materials (SCMs). Recent studies suggest rice husk ash (RHA), a by-product production, present promising performances as pozzolanic material to enhance blended mixtures. There are many controversial regarding RHA how its properties directly affect performance concretes mortars. The study aims evaluate influence on ASR through accelerated mortar bar test (AMBT), X-Rays Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TG), Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). To validate obtained data, results were compared with mortars made well-known SCM (silica fume) which distinguished behaviour against ASR. indicate that, besides silica fume have showed better results, suggests mitigate ASR, yet, further analysis prims should carried out fully concrete. finesses particle size important in performance.

Rice Husk Ash-Derived Silica Nanofluids: Synthesis and Stability Study

Nanofluids, colloidal suspensions consisting of base fluids and nanoparticles, are a new generation of engineering working fluids. Nanofluids have shown great potential in heat/mass transfer applications. However, their practical applications are limited by the high production cost and low stability. In this study, a low-cost agricultural waste, rice husk ash (RHA), was used as a silicon source...

Pozzolanic Reactivity of Silica Fume and Ground Rice Husk Ash as Reactive Silica in a Cementitious System: A Comparative Study

This study comparably assessed the pozzolanic effect of silica fume (SF) and ground rice husk ash (RHA) as supplementary cementing materials on the properties of blended cement pastes and concretes. A commonly commercial silica fume (SF) and locally-produced rice husk ash (RHA) samples with two finenesses (one with larger size than cement and the other with smaller size than cement) were used i...

Strength and Durability Performance of Alkali-Activated Rice Husk Ash Geopolymer Mortar

This paper describes the experimental investigation carried out to develop the geopolymer concrete based on alkali-activated rice husk ash (RHA) by sodium hydroxide with sodium silicate. Effect on method of curing and concentration of NaOH on compressive strength as well as the optimum mix proportion of geopolymer mortar was investigated. It is possible to achieve compressive strengths of 31 N/...
